What is hodinkee?
This is a watch account belonging to the famous watch blog, now watch blog and business, Hodinkee. On their Instagram account they share beautiful pictures of watches of all types from all around the world. The majority of pictures belong to Hodinkee and are taken by them. They capture a lot of pictures of watches as well as pictures of other similar products to watches, such as accessories and jewelery, as well as events and cool moments involving watches. Here are a couple examples of content, one being a picture of a watch, the other being a picture of Michael Jordan and Barack Obama, showcasing MJ's watch:
Hodinkee visits various watch collectors, distributors and dealers in order to explore unique and various watch content. This allows them to share some very unique pieces with their followers. They also refer to blog or articles that have been written about pieces or brands that are captured in the post's photo in the caption. This gives their followers the opportunity to expand on their experience with Hodinkee. They use their account as a good interface for those who want to explore into watches and get them onto their website.
Further more, they describe the things followers can do on their website, such as use their watch strap match maker. Here is an example of a post demonstrating a user using this website feature on their instagram page:
This is a picture taken by a follower, which shows that Hodinkee cares for their customers and will pay attention to what they send to them.
What could they improve on?
If there is a complaint to make, it's that when they post something that is not inline with their typical content, it truly sticks out like a sore thumb and takes away from the page as a whole. Here is an example of their attempt at posting a joke, and it kind of falls flat and really does not belong with their high quality content:
Furthermore, they have events hosted with other organizations and when they post about it or want to advertise it, they do it in an intrusive and annoying manner, in my opinion. They merely show the logo on a stock background as such:
How are they monetizing?
To start off, they have an online shop they is referenced in many posts, particularly in the caption space. They also run sales or specials and they make posts about this. A recent example is for the holiday gift collections. They also put the link to their store in the bio to further direct traffic to what they want to sell.
They also refer to such a special, or any type, in a post as well as its caption. In the photo they display a photo of a product that is part of the sale, as shown here:
And in general, they will put items they sale on their stores in posts and clearly show that it is in fact a Hodinkee product. This reminds customers that they have an online shop, increasing the likelihood of customers clicking through to their website. Here is an example:
